Overview
Alexander F. Flores has spent his career inside the institutions society relies on to do justice — first in uniform, then as a federal prosecutor, and now as a plaintiff's trial lawyer representing the injured against the corporations, insurers, and government actors who caused them harm.
As Senior Counsel in Singleton Schreiber's Albuquerque office, Alex represents individuals and families across New Mexico in serious personal injury, catastrophic injury, and wrongful-death matters, including car crashes, commercial-vehicle and trucking collisions, and other negligence cases that upend ordinary lives in a single moment. He brings to each of those cases the same trial discipline he carried in the federal courthouse for more than a decade, and the same unwillingness to be outworked or out-prepared by the insurance defense bar.
Alex also maintains an active federal-court practice. He plays a role in the firm's Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Federal Tort Claims Act litigation and leads in related actions before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, representing New Mexicans whose homes, businesses, and family members were lost in the largest wildfire in state history. As a cooperating attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico, he has successfully petitioned federal courts under 28 U.S.C. § 2241 to obtain the release of multiple individuals — including DACA recipients and asylum seekers — who were unlawfully detained by federal immigration authorities.
Before joining Singleton Schreiber, Alex served as a Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice in Albuquerque, where he co-led the Indian Country Crimes Section. In that role, he supervised teams prosecuting homicides, sexual assaults, kidnappings, and firearms offenses on Tribal lands across New Mexico, and worked closely with Tribal leaders, Tribal courts, and federal law enforcement to strengthen investigations and prosecutions of crimes affecting Native communities, including cases tied to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) initiative. Before his appointment as a supervisor, he personally prosecuted nearly 200 federal felony cases and argued successful appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He has tried 17 federal jury trials.
Alex has served as a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps and New Mexico Air National Guard for the better part of two decades. On active duty as a Marine judge advocate, his assignments included roles in the Office of the Chief Prosecutor of Military Commissions; as a prosecutor in Okinawa, Japan; as an Aide-de-Camp; and as an acting supervisory prosecutor and complex trial prosecutor responsible for all Marine units
in the western United States, where he led high-profile, special victim, and other significant courts-martial. He transitioned to the Marine Corps Reserve in 2020, where he served as a law of war instructor, a supervisory prosecutor at the Department of Defense's busiest prosecution office, and an administrative separations board hearing officer. In late 2024, he was appointed Deputy Staff Judge Advocate with the New Mexico Air National Guard, advising Wing leadership on military justice, operational law, and ethics.
Earlier in his career, Alex clerked for New Mexico Supreme Court Justice Edward L. Chávez, an experience that shaped his approach to appellate strategy, statutory interpretation, and the discipline of the written record.
Alex serves as Co-Chair of the New Mexico Commission on Access to Justice, an appointment by the New Mexico Supreme Court, to expand civil legal assistance for low-income New Mexicans. He is also a trustee of the Albuquerque Community Foundation, a current board member and former Vice President of the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association, and a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association.
Alex earned his Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law, where he received both the Dean's Award and the Faculty Award; a Master in Public Affairs from Princeton University; and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy and Political Science, cum laude, from The George Washington University.
