Climate Change Suit Must Proceed, Boulder Tells High Court

Kevin S. Hannon, Partner at Singleton Schreiber LLP, was featured by Law360 in an article titled “Climate Change Suit Must Proceed, Boulder Tells High Court,” published on July 28, 2026.

In the article, Hannon was identified as a member of the legal team representing the City and County of Boulder in its climate change lawsuit against Exxon Mobil and Suncor Energy. The matter is currently before the U.S. Supreme Court, which is considering whether the lawsuit may proceed in state court.

The article discusses Boulder’s argument that its state law claims seeking damages for climate-related infrastructure costs are not preempted by federal law and should continue through the state court system. The case is one of several climate change tort actions brought by state and local governments against fossil fuel companies and could have broader implications for the future of climate litigation.
