KOAT Action 7 News

Brian Colón, Managing Partner at Singleton Schreiber in New Mexico, was recently featured by KOAT Action 7 News in their article, "FEMA Faces Nearly 30 Lawsuits Over Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon Fire Compensation Delays" which was published on July 9, 2025.

The article discusses:

  • The frustrations that 2022 Hermit's Peak and Calf Canyon Fire victims continue to face in the aftermath of the fire, including the contamination of Las Vegas' water supply and the loss of their homes, businesses, and acreage loss
  • That over 30 lawsuits have now been filed on behalf of 167 individual plaintiffs and several organizations in federal court against the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
  • The lawsuit accuses FEMA of denying full compensation, violating due process rights, and withholding information in violation of the Freedom of Information Act

Speaking to KOAT, Mr. Colón said: "We don’t think there are bad actors. We just think there are bad systems. And we’re going to use the courts to fix those systems. At the end of the day, we have limited options. But one of those options is litigating."
