New Mexico COVID-19 Memorial Groundbreaking
Colón is highlighted in connection with his role supporting the Bernalillo County initiative to develop the New Mexico COVID-19 Memorial, a public art project designed to honor lives lost during the pandemic and provide a space for community healing. His involvement reflects ongoing efforts to support survivor-driven initiatives and create meaningful spaces for remembrance.
The coverage explores Phase I of the memorial, which includes six artist-designed perforated metal panels installed along a “pilgrimage path.” Both the article and video emphasize the memorial’s purpose as a place for reflection, storytelling, and collective healing, shaped by community voices and personal loss. “This project touches so many lives, and I am grateful to those who said we must give New Mexicans a place of solace, and families a place for peace and comfort.”
