Yohania Santana

Yohania is a litigator who focuses on high-stakes, complex environmental and civil litigation. Her practice spans state and federal courts nationwide and focuses on environmental contamination, toxic torts, climate accountability, and appellate advocacy.

Before joining Singleton Schreiber, Yohania was an income partner in the Miami office of a national law firm, where she handled complex civil litigation matters, with a primary focus on multijurisdictional post-judgment collection proceedings arising under U.S. anti-terrorism laws, including the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act. Before her experience with that firm, Yohania began her legal career as a staff attorney at Dade Legal Aid, where she represented survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence, and stalking in civil injunction proceedings.

Outside of her practice, Yohania enjoys traveling, cooking, attending stand-up comedy shows, and spending time with her dog.

Yohania’s litigation experience includes being part of the teams that represent:

• Property owners and household members, whose properties and private wells have been contaminated by perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) from a manufacturing facility in Amherst, New Hampshire.
• Property owners and household members, whose properties and household water sources have been contaminated by perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) from a manufacturing facility in Merrimack, New Hampshire.
• Property owners and household members, whose property and household water sources have been contaminated by various polyfluorinated chemicals, including GenX from a manufacturing facility in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
• Residents who were exposed to ethylene oxide from a medical sterilization facility in Lakewood, Colorado.
• Local governmental entities against fossil fuel companies in climate accountability cases in Colorado.
• Hospital patients in a wrongful lien class action under Colorado’s hospital lien statute.

Yohania’s appellate experience includes being part of the teams that:

• Successfully represented property owners and household members in a New Hampshire Supreme Court case that clarified the limits of res judicata in environmental contamination suits.  John Hermens & a. v. Textiles Coated Inc. d/b/a Textiles Coated Int’l, 2024-0189, 2025 WL 1540912 (N.H. 2025).
• Successfully represented hospital patients in a Colorado Supreme Court case that clarified the scope of permissible discovery under Colorado’s hospital lien statute and reinforced protections for those asserting statutory damages in wrongful lien suits.  In re: Garcia v. Centura Health Corporation, 566 P.3d 999 (Colo. 2025).
• Successfully represented local governmental entities in a Colorado Supreme Court case concerning jurisdiction over state common law claims against fossil fuel companies for climate related damages.  In re: County Commissioners of Boulder County and City of Boulder v. Suncor Energy USA, Inc., et al., --- P.3d --- (Colo. 2025).
