Trial attorneys for Singleton Schreiber won a $16.4 million verdict on May 11, 2022, against the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) for their negligence in maintaining a tree that fell on a 75-year-old woman who was riding her motorcycle northbound on State Route 79 (SR-79) near Warner Springs on August 19, 2020.

Our client was operating a motorcycle on northbound State Route 79 near Warner Springs in San Diego County when a large tree branch detached and fell from a tree within the State’s right of way. She sued the State of California and the Department of Transportation, who owned and maintained the roadway and the subject tree. Our client suffered a brain bleed, a burst spinal vertebra, multiple spinal fractures from C2-C8, and a shattered femur, as well as other injuries.
