Press Release

San Diego, CA – In a Joint Case Management Statement filed November 13th, 2025, plaintiffs in the Eaton Fire litigation accuse Southern California Edison (SCE) and its parent company, Edison International, of intentionally delaying justice for the victims of the devastating fire. The filing highlights a stark contrast between Edison’s public admissions of responsibility and its obstructive actions in court, aimed at frustrating a timely and fair resolution for the fire survivors.

In the filing, plaintiffs highlight Edison’s repeated efforts to stall the litigation, despite CEO Pedro Pizarro’s public assertion that the company seeks to compensate victims quickly. Rather than engaging in meaningful settlement talks, Edison’s legal team is pushing to delay the trial until 2027, citing the need for additional investigation, a delay they themselves caused by falsely claiming they could not determine whether their equipment was responsible for the fire. This manufactured delay is being used as leverage to coerce victims into accepting "take it or leave it" settlement offers, which offer a fraction, just 30-40%, of what a fair settlement would pay.

Edison’s public admission that its equipment likely caused the Eaton Fire is a step in the right direction, but their courtroom behavior tells a very different story,” said Gerald Singleton, Managing Partner at Singleton Schreiber. “Instead of agreeing to negotiated settlements that would fairly compensate fire victims, Edison is using tactics of delay, obstruction, and pressure, attempting to force survivors to accept unilateral settlement offers that are far below what they deserve.”

The filing also exposes Edison’s unethical conduct in directly contacting represented plaintiffs about their claims, violating professional conduct rules, and undermining the attorney-client relationship.

“Their so-called ‘Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program’ is an exploitative scheme designed to rush victims into accepting lowball offers, with no room for negotiation or fair evaluation,” Singleton added. “Edison is blatantly disregarding legal protections by directly contacting represented plaintiffs. This pattern of manipulation is a transparent effort to reduce their financial responsibility while leaving victims with nothing close to adequate compensation for the devastation they’ve suffered.”

Singleton Schreiber, together with over 160 other firms representing individual plaintiffs, continues to stand firm in its commitment to fighting for justice for the victims of the Eaton Fire, urging Edison to stop wasting judicial resources and engage in honest, good faith negotiations that offer fire survivors the compensation necessary to replace the real and personal property that Edison destroyed.
