Lawsuit Alleges Homewood Spa Ignored Sexual Abuse Complaint
Coverage of Lawsuit Against Escape Day Spa in Homewood, Alabama
Senior Counsel Blake Milner of Singleton Schreiber LLP was featured in a WVTM13 News segment covering a lawsuit filed against Escape Day Spa in Homewood, Alabama. The suit alleges the business failed to protect a client from sexual abuse by a massage therapist employed at the spa.
According to the report, massage therapist Matthew Jones was arrested on two counts of sexual abuse following accusations of inappropriate sexual conduct during massage appointments at the spa. The lawsuit alleges that when the client reported the incident to the spa's owner, her claim was dismissed and she was instead offered a refund and a massage with a different employee. The suit also alleges Jones's massage license had expired in July of the previous year, yet he continued to perform massages at the spa.
"This is not just about one bad actor. It's about a business that had every opportunity to prevent this and chose not to, both before the assault and after our client came forward," Milner said in a statement.
"Our client came forward not only seeking justice for herself, but to ensure that no one else is harmed," Milner said in a statement.
