Lawsuit Filed Against Homewood Massage Therapist, Spa After Woman Reports Sexual Assault
Partner Sara Williams and Senior Counsel Blake Milner were featured by WBRC in an article titled "Lawsuit Filed Against Homewood Massage Therapist, Spa After Woman Reports Sexual Assault," published on July 10, 2026.
Williams and Milner represent a woman who reported being sexually assaulted by a massage therapist during an appointment at Escape Day Spa in Homewood, Alabama. Singleton Schreiber filed the lawsuit on her behalf against the therapist, Matthew Owen Jones, and the day spa.
The suit alleges the spa continued to employ Jones and granted him unsupervised access to clients despite knowing his massage therapy license had expired and that he had engaged in inappropriate conduct during prior sessions. It further alleges that when the client reported the assault to the spa's owner, she received only a refund and an offer of a free massage rather than any investigation or report to authorities. Jones was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse after two women separately came forward, according to the Homewood Police Department.
"Our client went in for a routine massage and instead was assaulted by someone entrusted with her care, someone the spa knew shouldn't have been alone with customers in the first place," said Milner.
